For Ages 3 - 5 Years
Preschoolers, who are ready to participate without a parent or guardian, will develop skills while progressing through the “Rainbow” color levels.
Children take classes either once or twice a week. They learn basic swim coordination, entering and exiting the pool, getting their faces wet, floating and gliding and using arm and leg motions. They also are introduced to side-breathing techniques and formal strokes including front crawl, back crawl and breast stroke.
DolphinTot classes are small and most classes have a ratio of one instructor to four swimmers. The classes are taught by certified American Red Cross water safety instructors and water safety aides. DolphinTot parents or caregivers must remain in the YWCA viewing section above the swimming pool during their child’s class. They may not leave the YWCA for any reason.
RedDolphins: Able to learn swim readiness without a parent.
OrangeDolphins: Ready to improve swim readiness skills.
YellowDolphins: Can swim five yards independently with a basic stroke on their front and back.
BlueDolphins: Able to swim 15 yards with front crawl and pay attention to what they need to learn.
