Drawing attention to the serious and growing problem of domestic violence in the community…the state…and the nation
A series of events are presented that explain domestic violence and the singular help offered by the YWCA as the sole licensed provider of domestic abuse services in the community. There is a “Candlelight Vigil” that features a victim’s story, remembers victims who have lost their lives and asks attendees to light candles of hope for the future. An art show in the YWCA Gertrude White Gallery features domestic and teen dating violence themed material. A “Purple Ribbon” award is given to an individual in the community who has supported our efforts. And noted speakers on the subject of domestic abuse address various interested segments of the population.
